Looking back at 2015 when I recorded this mix in my Maida Vale flat, I was very reluctant to put it live. Not only was I worried about the quality of my mixing, but I cared what people would think of the tunes having played funk, disco and soul mostly when playing out in clubs and bars.
Now a few years later, I’m glad I did. It was the first step in getting something online, something to show people, a way to convey my taste. What I wanted to play.
I’m proud of the selection, which runs through techno, house, electronic and ambient, from Nicholas Jaar’s somewhat shamanic John the Revelator through to The Herbaliser’s sensual hip hop sampler, Forty Winks.
As the name indicates I guess the gist of this is that we strive for perfection, yet sometimes we let it get in the way of progression. Look back and learn from imperfections. No one’s ever walked up to an oche and nailed the bulls eye without a few throws first. Same goes with the throw of a record on a turntable.
Thanks for your time,
